Alternative medicine

Friday, April 4th, 2008

As the science is advancing and treatments are being found successfully for the various diseases, the diseases also are advancing. New and new diseases are becoming known and this has brought into picture the systems of alternative medicines. Alternative means which is not allopathic and in this alternative medicine the therapeutic systems which are showing some good results are :
a. Ayurveda
b. Homoeopathy
c. Unani
d. Sidha system
e. Naturopathy
f. Yoga therapy
g. Magnetic therapy
h. Auto urine therapy
i. Acupressure
j. Acupuncture
k. Chiropractic
l. Reiki etc.

Alternative medicine includes practices that differ from conventional medicine. Some alternative medicine practices are homeopathy, naturopathy, chiropractic, and herbal medicine. A typical definition is “every available approach to healing that does not fall within the realm of conventional medicine”.

Alternative medicine practices may be based on non-traditional belief systems or philosophies, and some may not follow the scientific method. They may incorporate spiritual, metaphysical, or religious underpinnings, untested practices, pre-modern medical traditions, or newly developed approaches to healing. If an initially untested alternative medical approach is subsequently shown to be safe and effective, it may then be adopted by conventional practitioners and no longer considered “alternative”.

“Alternative medicine” is often categorized together with complementary medicine using the umbrella term Complementary and alternative medicine or CAM.

Holistic treatments

Friday, April 4th, 2008

In these treatments the doctor considers the body as a whole and the medicines given are acting on the whole body i.e. on all the systems and sub systems of the human body .This is opposed to the concept of specialization and super specialization as envisaged in the modern medical science.

Holistic health refers to a philosophy of medical care that views physical and mental aspects of life as closely interconnected and equally important approaches to treatment. While frequently associated with alternative medicine, it is also increasingly used in mainstream medical practice as part of a broad view of patient care.
refers to the idea that an entity is greater than the sum of its parts. In the case of health, the entity in question is the human body. Holistic concepts of health and fitness view achieving and maintaining good health as involving more than just taking care of all the various components that make up the physical body—attention must be paid to aspects such as emotional and spiritual well-being as well. The goal is a wellness that encompasses the entire person, rather than just the lack of physical pain or disease.

Holistic health is not itself a method of treatment, but instead an approach to how treatment should be applied. Traditional medical philosophy treats physical symptoms, using standardized methods such as the prescription of drugs or the undertaking of surgery, while the patient is only passively involved. Practices emphasizing holistic health, on the other hand believe that they are treating the whole person. Practitioners of holistic medicine believe that attitudes affect the present condition, and the patient may play an active role in the healing process.

The word “holistic” is derived from “whole”. The holistic approach to health differs from the conventional medical approach in that it takes into account the whole patient rather than just focusing on the symptom or the part that has the problem.

Most holistic therapists believe that the body has a vital force or life energy. It is this force that protects the body from disease and allows it to heal. We often refer to it as the “immune system”. When the balance of the immune system is disturbed we the see the various symptoms of dis-ease. Holistic therapies aim to help the patient restore the balance, thus allowing the body to heal itself naturally.

Viewed this way, symptoms become valuable messengers. They let us know when we have lost our balance and that we will need to make some adjustments if we are to regain our health. If we ignore or just suppress the message then we can expect bigger problems later on.

Nutrition, emotions, genetics, previous illnesses and treatment are some of the factors that can influence our health. Our home environment, the weather, relationships with others and the chemicals in food and water, are also important causes of dis-ease.

Aids treatment

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Aids is a deadly disease which the modern medical science has not been able to cure satisfactorily. Our doctors at Hundred years life club has successfully cured aids patients by using combination therapies of alternative medicine, holistic medicine, integrated medicine and yogic methods. However more clinical trials need to be done. The number of people dying with Aids is assuming a alarming proportions and it is increasing day by day .Yogic methods and combined therapy systems seem to hold a great promise in treating this disease.

Acquired immune deficiency syndrome or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS or Aids) is a collection of symptoms and infections resulting from the specific damage to the immune system caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in humans, and similar viruses in other species (SIV, FIV, etc.). The late stage of the condition leaves individuals susceptible to opportunistic infections and tumors. Although treatments for AIDS and HIV exist to decelerate the virus’s progression, there is currently no known cure. HIV, et al., are transmitted through direct contact of a mucous membrane or the bloodstream with a bodily fluid containing HIV, such as blood, semen, vaginal fluid, preseminal fluid, and breast milk. This transmission can come in the form of anal, vaginal or oral sex, blood transfusion, contaminated hypodermic needles, exchange between mother and baby during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding, or other exposure to one of the above bodily fluids.

Most researchers believe that HIV originated in sub-Saharan Africa during the twentieth century;it is now a pandemic, with an estimated 33.2 million people now living with the disease worldwide. As of January 2006, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and the World Health Organization (WHO) estimate that AIDS has killed more than 25 million people since it was first recognized on June 5, 1981, making it one of the most destructive epidemics in recorded history. In 2005 alone, AIDS claimed an estimated 2.4–3.3 million lives, of which more than 570,000 were children.A third of these deaths are occurring in sub-Saharan Africa, retarding economic growth and destroying human capital. Antiretroviral treatment reduces both the mortality and the morbidity of HIV infection, but routine access to antiretroviral medication is not available in all countries.HIV/AIDS stigma is more severe than that associated with other life-threatening conditions and extends beyond the disease itself to providers and even volunteers involved with the care of people living with HIV.

Cancer treatment

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Cancer is a deadly disease which the modern medical science has not been able to cure satisfactorily. Our doctors at Hundred years life club has successfully cured cancer patients by using combination therapies of alternative medicine, holistic medicine, integrated medicine and yogic methods. The number of people dying with cancer is assuming alarming proportions and it is increasing day by day .Yogic methods and combined therapy systems seem to hold a great promise in treating this disease.
Cancer is a group of diseases in which cells are aggressive (grow and divide without respect to normal limits), invasive (invade and destroy adjacent tissues), and sometimes metastatic (spread to other locations in the body). These three malignant properties of cancers differentiate them from benign tumors, which are self-limited in their growth and don’t invade or metastasize (although some benign tumor types are capable of becoming malignant). Cancer may affect people at all ages, even fetuses, but risk for the more common varieties tends to increase with age. Cancer causes about 13% of all deaths.According to the American Cancer Society, 7.6 million people died from cancer in the world during 2007.Apart from humans, forms of cancer may affect other animals and plants.

Nearly all cancers are caused by abnormalities in the genetic material of the transformed cells. These abnormalities may be due to the effects of carcinogens, such as tobacco smoke, radiation, chemicals, or infectious agents. Other cancer-promoting genetic abnormalities may be randomly acquired through errors in DNA replication, or are inherited, and thus present in all cells from birth. Complex interactions between carcinogens and the host genome may explain why only some develop cancer after exposure to a known carcinogen.

Cancer is usually classified according to the tissue from which the cancerous cells originate, as well as the normal cell type they most resemble. These are location and histology, respectively. A definitive diagnosis usually requires the histologic examination of a tissue biopsy specimen by a pathologist, although the initial indication of malignancy can be symptoms or radiographic imaging abnormalities. Most cancers can be treated and some cured, depending on the specific type, location, and stage.
